The Growing Success of UMNT’s Annual Arabic Calligraphy Workshop

As the Youth Coordinator at the United Muslims of Northern Territory (UMNT), I have had the honour of organizing our annual Arabic calligraphy workshop for the past several years. This event has grown significantly in popularity each year amongst the youth community, reflecting its success and the community’s enthusiasm.

UMNT Arabic Calligraphy Event 2024- Young participants with Honourable Hugh Heggie AO PSM, Opposition leader Mrs Lia Finocchiaro and UMNT president (Mohammad Razi) and Vice-president (Kamran Azeem).

Arabic calligraphy, as I have always believed, is not only an art form but also a profound expression of cultural and spiritual heritage.

It is with great pride that I share this tradition with a diverse audience, encompassing both members of the local Muslim community and individuals from various cultural backgrounds. The workshop is designed to be inclusive, welcoming all skill level.

The success of this event is evident in the positive response and engagement from attendees.

Each year, participants, many of whom are new to calligraphy, leave with a deeper appreciation for the beauty and intricacy of Arabic script. It is gratifying to witness their growth and enthusiasm as they explore this ancient art form.

Through this workshop, UMNT aims to bridge the rich cultural heritage of the Muslim community with the broader Northern Territory population.

The Arabic calligraphy event serves as a platform for cultural exchange, celebrating our diversity and fostering a deeper understanding of our artistic traditions. As the workshop continues to thrive, it contributes to enriching the cultural landscape of the Northern Territory and strengthening community connections.
